Health and Safety Policy for Carpet Cleaning KT6
This Health and Safety policy sets out the principles and procedures followed by Carpet Cleaning KT6 to protect the health, safety and welfare of our employees, contractors, clients and members of the public. Our company is committed to providing professional carpet and upholstery cleaning services while minimising risks arising from our work activities.
Policy Statement
Carpet Cleaning KT6 recognises its duty to operate in a safe and responsible manner. We aim to prevent accidents, injuries and ill health by identifying hazards, assessing risks and implementing effective control measures. Health and safety considerations form an integral part of our planning, supervision and delivery of cleaning services in homes, offices and commercial premises.
Management is responsible for ensuring that adequate resources, information, training and supervision are provided so that all work can be carried out safely. Every employee and contractor is required to follow our procedures, cooperate with supervisors, and take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions.
Legal Responsibilities
Carpet Cleaning KT6 will comply with all relevant health and safety legislation and associated regulations applicable to our cleaning activities. We will keep our procedures under review so they remain up to date with current legal requirements and industry best practice. Where clients have their own site rules, we will cooperate with them to ensure safe working arrangements are agreed and followed.
Management Responsibilities
Management is responsible for implementing this policy and monitoring its effectiveness. This includes:
Ensuring that suitable and sufficient risk assessments are carried out for all carpet, rug and upholstery cleaning tasks and related activities. Providing appropriate cleaning equipment, products and personal protective equipment that are safe, maintained and suitable for their intended use. Confirming that staff receive adequate induction and ongoing training in safe working procedures, safe use of machinery, chemical handling and emergency arrangements. Investigating incidents, accidents and near misses so that lessons are learned and corrective actions are taken promptly. Reviewing this policy at regular intervals, and whenever there are significant changes to our work methods, equipment or legal obligations.
Employee Responsibilities
All employees and contractors working for Carpet Cleaning KT6 must:
Take reasonable care for their own health and safety and for the safety of others who may be affected by their work. Follow all training, instructions and safe systems of work provided by the company. Use personal protective equipment correctly and report any defects in equipment or materials. Report hazards, unsafe conditions, accidents and near misses to management without delay. Refrain from misusing or interfering with anything provided for health, safety or welfare.
Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices
Before any job is undertaken, Carpet Cleaning KT6 will assess the site-specific risks. This includes considering access routes, trip hazards, electrical safety, ventilation, presence of children or pets and any client-specific requirements.
Safe working practices include:
Planning the layout of hoses, cables and equipment to minimise trip hazards and obstructions. Using warning signs where appropriate to alert occupants to wet floors, trailing hoses or restricted areas. Ensuring that electrical equipment is visually checked before use and not operated if damaged or defective. Avoiding overloading of power sockets and keeping electrical connections away from water or wet areas. Maintaining good housekeeping throughout the job and leaving the work area clean and tidy on completion.
Chemical Safety and COSHH
Carpet Cleaning KT6 uses cleaning solutions and stain treatments suited to carpets, rugs and upholstery. All products are assessed for their risks, and safety data information is kept and used to inform safe use procedures.
Our approach includes:
Using only approved cleaning chemicals and keeping them in clearly labelled containers. Following manufacturer instructions for dilution, application and contact times. Providing and using appropriate personal protective equipment such as gloves, masks or eye protection where required. Ensuring good ventilation in work areas when using chemicals. Storing chemicals securely during transport and on site so that they are not accessible to children, pets or unauthorised persons. Avoiding the mixing of incompatible chemicals and promptly cleaning up any spills using safe procedures.
Equipment Safety and Maintenance
Carpet cleaning machinery, including hot water extraction units, vacuums and agitation tools, will be maintained in good working order. Routine checks and servicing will be carried out in line with manufacturer guidance.
Operators will only use equipment for its intended purpose and will be trained in safe operation, including setting up machines, running hoses safely and shutting down equipment. Faulty equipment will be taken out of use immediately and reported for repair or replacement.
Personal Protective Equipment
Personal protective equipment will be provided where risks cannot be adequately controlled by other means. This may include gloves, safety footwear, masks, eye protection or protective clothing, depending on the task and products used.
Employees are expected to wear PPE as instructed, keep it in good condition and report any damage or loss so that it can be replaced promptly.
Working in Client Premises
When working in client homes or commercial premises, Carpet Cleaning KT6 will respect the environment and take care to protect occupants and property. This includes planning work to minimise disruption, keeping work areas as clear as possible, and using corner guards, floor protection or other measures where appropriate.
Special consideration will be given where there are children, elderly persons, pets or individuals with allergies or respiratory conditions. Where necessary, we will discuss product choices, ventilation and room access with the client to agree suitable arrangements.
Emergency Procedures
All staff are briefed on what to do in the event of an emergency, including fire, serious injury, chemical spillage or equipment failure. This includes knowing how to safely switch off equipment, how to evacuate from the premises, where to assemble if required by site rules, and how to seek medical assistance.
Accidents and significant incidents will be recorded, and appropriate follow up action will be taken to prevent recurrence.
Monitoring and Review
Carpet Cleaning KT6 is committed to continuous improvement in health and safety performance. We will monitor our working practices, seek feedback from staff and clients, and update this policy when necessary to reflect developments in legislation, technology and industry standards.
This Health and Safety policy is communicated to all employees and is available to clients who wish to understand how we manage risks associated with carpet and upholstery cleaning services in our service area.
